Community Outreach Coordinator
W.A.R.M (We All Really Matter) is a not-for-profit organization of domestic violence survivors along with their allies who are committed to ending violence against women and children in the Harlem community. Our primary goal is to empower survivors through a holistic approach, focusing on the body, mind, and spirit. W.A.R.M seeks full time, client centered community outreach coordinators to support the needs of survivors on their path to safety and independence.
Community Outreach Coordinators (COC) act as the first line of contact between WARM and the Harlem community bringing education / awareness about domestic violence and information about WARM’s services to the Community Outreach Coordinators need to be strong in the following three areas: Interpersonal Skills, Cultural Sensitivity and Problem--Solving.
Interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, are very important, as they must be able to work closely with the NYPD, community-based organizations, victims/survivors of domestic violence and others while listening carefully to their concerns and answering their questions. Cultural sensitivity is key because as an outreach worker you may be working with different ethnic groups. Problem solving skills are necessary since community outreach coordinators deal with problems daily and domestic violence is a crisis-oriented issue. Community outreach coordinators must be personable, able to educate others, possess good writing skills to develop materials and document their activities accurately; able to safely operate a motor vehicle and handle WARM’s transportation responsibility. The community outreach coordinator is often a member of the community he/she serves or has shared experiences that increase their credibility and understanding of the issues people face. Related work experience is encouraged. Proficiency in a second language is preferred (Spanish).

Adhere to workplace policies and procedures, including confidentiality, documentation, channels of communication, culture, dress code, and conflict resolution.

Ability to discuss WARM services & resources.
Qualifications
● Knowledge of domestic violence issues, including challenges and services needs
● Innovative with effective brainstorming techniques
● Empathetic with a commitment to assist, relate to and effectively work with other women recovering from a domestic violence situation
● 2- or 4-year college degree
● Familiarity with Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
● Typing 55 words or more a minute
● Valid Driver’s license; clean driving record
● Organized and detail oriented
● Good verbal and written communications, effective interpersonal skills
● Spanish speaking - highly considered, but not required
